1Buy correct hinge kitOrder Lenovo part 01YR210 (left hinge + bracket) + 01YR211 (right). Verify with serial number on Lenovo Parts Lookup.
2Disconnect batteryRemove 8 Torx T5 screws from bottom. Pry cover off. Disconnect main battery connector. Hold power 30s to drain.
3Remove keyboardOpen laptop. Pry keyboard from top edge (clips). Disconnect keyboard ribbon cable + trackpad cable. Lift keyboard off.⚠ Do not bend the keyboard ribbon u2014 it cracks easily.
4Remove LCD assemblyDisconnect display cable + Wi-Fi antenna cables. Unscrew the 4 hinge screws on the bottom of the chassis. Lift LCD assembly off.
5Heat hinge coverUse heat gun on low (200u00b0C) to warm the back cover around the hinge. Carbon-fiber becomes pliable. This prevents further cracking.⚠ Do not overheat u2014 display panel can be damaged.
6Replace broken hingeUnscrew the broken hinge from the back cover. Install new hinge with new screws (do not reuse old screws u2014 they are torque-stretched).
7Reassemble in reverseReattach LCD assembly u2192 connect antenna + display cables u2192 keyboard u2192 back cover u2192 screws.
8Test hinge tensionOpen/close the lid 20 times. Should move smoothly with consistent resistance. If too tight, the new hinge will crack the cover again u2014 slightly loosen the screws.
